Islamic Companion App

NOOR

NOOR ("the App", "we", "us") is an Islamic companion app providing prayer times, Quran reading, Dhikr/Tasbih, Qibla direction, and related features. This Privacy Policy explains what information we access, how we use it, and your rights.

An account is optional. You can use NOOR fully offline without signing in — in that mode all your data stays on your device and nothing is sent to our servers. If you choose to create an account, we sync your data so you can access it across devices and restore it if you change phones. The sections below describe both modes.

1. Information We Collect

When you use the App without an account:

Location (approximate or precise): Used solely to calculate accurate prayer times and Qibla direction for your area. Processed on your device and not stored on our servers.
Device time & timezone: Used to display accurate prayer countdowns and the local clock.
Notification permissions: Used only to deliver prayer time reminders you explicitly enable in Settings. We send no marketing notifications.

When you create an account and enable sync, we additionally collect and store on our servers:

Email address: Used to sign you in via a one-time code and to identify your account. We do not use passwords.
Optional display name: If you choose to provide one.
Your religious-practice data: so it can be synced and restored, including prayer logs, prayer streaks, Qada (missed-prayer) records and adjustments, Quran reading progress and bookmarks (including any notes you add), Dhikr/Tasbih statistics and custom Tasbih entries, Quran memorization plans, Niyyah (intentions), and your in-app settings.
Authentication metadata: Login session tokens and their expiry, stored to keep you signed in securely.

We do not collect your contacts, photos, precise location history, or any special-category data beyond the religious-practice records you yourself create in the App.

2. How We Use Your Information

Computing prayer times (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha) and optional prayers (Ishraq, Tahajjud, etc.) based on your geographic coordinates.
Pointing the Qibla compass toward Mecca.
Scheduling local prayer-time notifications on your device.
Signing you in via a one-time code sent to your email (only if you create an account).
Syncing your data across your devices and restoring it after reinstalling or switching phones (only if you enable sync).

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your synced religious-practice data for advertising or profiling.

3. Data Storage

If you use the App without an account, all data — Quran bookmarks, Tasbih counts, Dhikr history, and settings — is stored exclusively on your device using local storage.

If you create an account, the data listed in Section 1 is also stored on our backend servers, which are hosted on Railway and use a PostgreSQL database. Data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections.

4. Third-Party Services

NOOR relies on the following services:

Railway (hosting): Hosts our backend API and database that store account and synced data.
Resend (email delivery): Sends the one-time sign-in code to your email address. Your email is shared with Resend only for the purpose of delivering that message.
Firebase Analytics (Google): Collects anonymous, aggregated usage data (such as which screens are opened and which events occur) to help us improve the App. It is not used to identify you personally.
Google Mobile Ads / AdMob: May display advertisements and may collect device identifiers and ad-interaction data as described in Google's policies.
Quran API (alquran.cloud): Fetches Quran text and audio. Only surah/ayah identifiers are sent — no personal data.
Prayer time calculation (Adhan library): Runs entirely on-device. No network request is made.

These providers process data under their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review Google's Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy) and Resend's Privacy Policy (resend.com/legal/privacy-policy).

5. Children's Privacy

NOOR is intended for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Account creation requires an email address. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

6. Permissions Requested

ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION: Prayer times and Qibla. You may deny this permission; the App will ask you to enter a city manually.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13+): Prayer time alerts. Entirely optional.
INTERNET: Fetching Quran content, signing in, and syncing your data when you have an account.

7. Data Retention & Deletion

Local data: To erase all locally stored data, uninstall NOOR from your device.

Account data: If you have an account, you may request deletion of your account and all associated synced data at any time by emailing us at the address below. We will delete your account data from our servers upon verifying your request. We retain account data only for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the sync service.

8. Security

Data transmitted between the App and our servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. Sign-in uses short-lived one-time codes and secure session tokens rather than stored passwords. Session tokens on your device are kept in the platform's secure storage. While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to withdraw consent for sync at any time by deleting your account. To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the App evolves. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date at the top. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
